History of Covington High School

Byars Hall

Frazier High painting by Robert Armstrong
The school began in June of 1970 when Byars Hall High School and Frazier High School came together to form one school. The name of the new school was decided by a vote among the students. We kept the purple from Byars Hall and gold from both schools as our colors and chose a new mascot, the Chargers, at that time. The school used the old Byars Hall building as the main campus and the facilities at Frazier for the Ag Department.

The 1981-82 year was one of transition since we were having classes while the new school was being built all around us. In the fall of 1982 we moved into the new building which is located on the old site of Covington High School.
